Xie Zongxu

Xie Zongxu (Hazim) holds a Bachelor's degree from Tsinghua University in Hydraulic Engineering and is currently a PhD researcher at Tsinghua and Oxford University. He also has a Master's degree in Global Governance from the School of Social Sciences at Tsinghua University. As the co-founder of Tsinghua Global Youth Dialogue (TGYD), he has excelled in the fields of youth sustainable development and climate change. Zongxu is a member of the Expert Group on Climate Change Impacts on Inland Transportation& Adaptation of the Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UNECE), a Global Youth Ambassador of the Global Alliance of Universities on Climate (GAUC), and the co-head of the GAUC Youth Delegation at the UN Climate Change Conference. He is also the executive director of the Digital Ecology and Environmental Sciences Laboratory at the BRICS Institute of Digital Economy and Artificial Systems (BRICS IDEAS).

As the first UN Indigenous Fellow from China, Zongxu has made significant contributions to global South culture and intercultural communication. He has been representing Chinese youth in traditional Miao attire at the UN. Zongxu has served as the president of the Student Association of the Belt and Road Initiative (SABRI), and has been honored with the Tsinghua University Person of the Year award and the “Glory of Africa - Friend of Africa” award, jointly conferred by the governments of Zimbabwe and Namibia. He is a board member of the China-Bangladesh Friendship Association and the General Advisor of the “Guizhou Village Super League” Belt and Road Friendship Tournament.

In the realm of youth diplomacy and global leadership, Zongxu leverages his multilingual abilities (Chinese, English, German, Spanish) and dance talent to tell China’s story on the international stage. He has been the captain of the Tsinghua University Ballroom Dance Team, won the 2024 Inter Varsity Dance Championships (IVDC) in the team match representing Oxford. Xie has led the Chinese delegation to the G20 Youth Summit and was named a "Leader of Tomorrow" by the St. Gallen Symposium. His achievements have been widely covered by prominent media such as CCTV News, CGTN, People's Daily, Guangming Daily, RT, Sputnik News, PR Newswire, Independent Media South Africa, and All India Radio.
