PhD Program in Environmental Science and New Energy Technology
Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute (TBSI) was jointly established in 2014 by University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), Tsinghua University and Shenzhen municipal government on the initiative of building a bridge across disciplines, cultures and countries, academia and industry, and an unprecedented platform for international collaboration, fostering future entrepreneurs and leaders in science and technology. Environment Science and New Energy Technology Ph.D Program, based on multi-disciplinary integration and corresponding advantages of Tsinghua and Berkeley, adopts the idea of integrating cultivating models between Arts, Sciences, Engineering, and Business. The program aims at training talents for interdisciplinary research addressing global-scale challenges in energy, environmental pollution and global warming issues, covering research directions in LargeScale Systems and fundamental materials and devices. Integrated research areas covered in the program include cutting-edge new materials and new devices, smart-grid electrical power management and engineering, environmental engineering, automatic control, and intelligent transportation. Program Highlights: 1. Diversified Research Areas: Nano Energy Materials, Environmental Science and Technology, Smart Grid and Renewable Energy, Intelligent Transportation and Logistics Systems, Low Carbon Economy and Financial Risk Analysis, Low Dimensional Materials and Devices 2. Integration of Academic Advantages of Tsinghua and UC Berkeley: 1).Integration of Arts, Sciences, Engineering, and Business 2).Integration of Research on Applied Systems and Core Fundamental Technologies 3).Co-supervision by Advisors from both Universities 4).Full scholarship of more than RMB400,000 (for All Eligible PhD Students) 5).One-year Exchange at UC Berkeley 6).PhD Degree Awarded by Tsinghua and Certificate of Study by UC Berkeley 7).Supervision by an Industry Adviser (Members of TBSI Industrial Advisory Board)
