Call For Papers—The 2nd International Conference on Teaching Chinese for Academic Purposes

会议介绍
Background

In the last twenty years, we have seen a rapid growth in teaching Chinese as a foreign language (CFL) worldwide. As we entered the second decade of the 21st Century, CFL Teaching needs to be further refined and the area of Chinese for Academic Purposes (CAP) bears a particular importance. LSE Language Centre, collaborating with CIBL, is delighted to call for papers for its second conference on teaching Chinese for Academic Purposes (CAP 2) in colleges and universities worldwide. We are interested in conversing with practitioners and experts who have used innovative and inclusive language teaching approaches. We are also inviting researchers and academics who have reflected on the pedagogies suitable for a multilingual university to share their inputs with us.

The focus of this year's conference is on Development and Opportunities of Chinese Plus; therefore, we particularly welcome presentations based on the design, development and delivery of Chinese Plus degrees (such as Chinese + IR, Chinese + Business, Chinese + Legal, Chinese + Hospitality, and others).

Below there are some suggested categories, though submissions need not be limited to these areas: curriculum design at a program level, the role of the institution, study abroad, teaching material and course book writing, assessment and feedback, student employability, and so on. CAP 2 invites proposals for presentations that are related to research in any of the aforementioned areas. Those wishing to participate should prepare abstracts for 30-minute oral presentations or poster presentations.

About us

LSE is a centre for the study of the social sciences and this is reflected in its Language Centre. Our courses focus on language and society. We teach people to speak languages, but also teach about language (socio-linguistics and intercultural communication) and offer a range of courses on literature and society. From 2019, we have hosted two undergraduate courses: BSc International Relations and Chinese, and BSc Language, Culture and Society.

The Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL) is a partnership between LSE and Tsinghua University. It was launched in 2006 with five sponsoring companies: HSBC, BP, Deloitte, Swire and Standard Chartered. With a strong focus on business communication, CIBL specialises in helping London business communities to learn Mandarin and foster greater understanding of the business culture in China. Alongside delivering business Chinese classes, we also host a number of events to promote wider Chinese culture - most of which are open to the general public.
