Prof. Dr. Fuquan (Frank) Zhao is a professor and the Director of Tsinghua Automotive Strategy Research Institute (TASRI), Tsinghua University, China, where he is leading a group of strategic research on automotive industry policy, corporate management, and technology roadmaps. Dr. Zhao has nearly 30 years of studying and working experience in the auto industry in Japan, United Kingdom, United States, and China. Prior to joining Tsinghua University in 2013, Dr. Zhao had the experience of Vice President of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, Vice President of Shenyang Brilliance JinBei Automobile Company Limited and Research Executive of Technical Affairs at DaimlerChrysler. He also held many other positions in his career including but not limited to Executive Board Director of Geely Automobile Holdings Limited (Hong Kong), Board Chairman of Australia DSI Holdings Limited, Board Director of British Manganese Bronze Holdings, and Board Director of BMW Brilliance JV Corporation. As one of the key persons, he was also actively involved in several international acquisitions such as the Geely-Volvo deal and their post integration processes.
Dr. Zhao is currently the President Elect (2018-2020) of FISITA (The International Federation of Automotive Engineers Societies), Member of the Global Future Council on Mobility of the World Economic Forum, Fellow of SAE-International, Fellow of SAE-China, Chairman of the Technical Management Committee of SAE-China, Executive Co-Chairman of China Automotive Elite Think Tank, and Vice Chairman of China Auto Talents Society. He also serves as the Chief Advisor and Board Director to several major companies.
Together with PhoenixNet, Prof. Zhao also developed a High-End Auto Executive Talk Show Programme, named《Fuquan Zhao Research Institute》. So far 36 industry leaders and corporate top executives have been interviewed through the show. Dr. Zhao has led the development of about 20 vehicles and 10 powertrain products, and owns more than 200 granted patents. As the principal leader, he completed more than 50 strategy and management consulting projects. He has published seven books in English and Chinese, and two of the English books have been translated into Chinese. In addition, Dr. Zhao has written more than 300 academic papers in English, Japanese and Chinese, and has delivered more than 200 keynote speeches at major conferences and forums. He received more than 30 significant recognitions including but not limited to the 2016 Person of the Year by China Automotive News.
