清华大学社科学院IUP 中文项目是一个国际高校（以美国为主）汉语联合会与清华大学共同设立的汉语语言培训项目。该国际高校汉语联合会成员包括清华大学、哥伦比亚大学、印第安纳大学、普林斯顿大学、斯坦福大学、英属哥伦比亚大学、加州大学伯克利分校、芝加哥大学、密歇根大学、弗吉尼亚大学、耶鲁大学十一所久负盛名的世界一流大学。清华大学社科学院IUP 中文项目的前身最早于1963 年在台湾创办，简称“斯坦福中心”，1997 年迁至北京清华大学，更名为清华大学IUP 中文项目。学生中既有来自世界各名校的本科生、研究生，也有已参加工作的专业人士和知名学者等。IUP高效的教学方法已经保持发展了60多年，其毕业生利用他们在IUP所获得的语言技能在教育、政府、法律部、商业资讯、管理、公共关系、新闻、外交等多个领域都取得了卓越的成就。
The Inter-University Program for Chinese Language Studies (IUP) at Tsinghua University School of Social Sciences is a Chinese language training program established by Tsinghua University and a consortium of international universities (mainly in the United States). The eleven schools in the Inter-University Program for Chinese Language Studies consortium includes Columbia University, Indiana University, Princeton University, Stanford University, Tsinghua University, University of British Columbia, University of California Berkeley, University of Chicago, University of Michigan, University of Virginia, and Yale University. The Inter-University Program for Chinese Language Studies at Tsinghua University’s predecessor program was established in 1963 in Taiwan, and was often called “the Stanford Center.” In 1997, IUP moved to Tsinghua University in Beijing and changed its name to the Inter-University Program for Chinese Language Studies at Tsinghua University. IUP is dedicated to delivering advanced Chinese language training to its participators, who are undergraduate participators, graduate participators, professionals, and recognized scholars from top universities worldwide. IUP’s highly effective teaching methodology has been in use for over sixty years, and its graduates use the language expertise learned at IUP for successful careers in education, government, law, business consulting, public relations, news media, diplomacy, and other fields.
要求严格 INTENSELY RIGOROUS
IUP高强度的课程安排保证了学员汉语语言能力的有效提升。学生每天都有4-6小时的课前准备时间，以及4小时的上课时间。一位导师最多指导3名学生。导师在课上将完全投入到与每一位学生的教学互动中。在日常的“1对1”教学中，学生可以提问与课程相关的问题，也可与老师沟通自己哪些方面需要提高，比如探讨自己感兴趣的领域和话题。
At IUP, intensity ensures Chinese language proficiency. Participators can expect 4-6 hours of class preparation and 4 hours of classes per day. An instructor with a maximum of 3 participators will engage and challenge each other in closed-book classroom sessions. Daily 1-on-1 tutorials also enable participators to ask questions regarding the course material and to work on areas of improvement, which may include delving into studies specific to their core interests.

【培训项目校历】
· 2024年春季班：2024年1月3日至2024年5月24日
· 2024 Spring Term: January 3– May 24, 2024
学员可选择一学期的课程（教学时长4个月），春季入学。课程为全日制。每学期由两个为期8周的单元组成。8周的学习完成后，学生将进入高一级课程的学习。高一级的课程将采用新教材，配备新教师。
Choose to study at IUP for one semester (4 months of instruction)starting in the spring. Participators are only admitted on a full-time basis. Each semester consists of two eight-week modules. After completing the eight-week module, participators will advance to a higher level of classes, start new textbooks, and work with new teachers.
核心课程的学生，在一周5天的时间内，每天上3小时的“3对1”课及1小时的“1对1”课。四个月的课程完成后，春季学期学生的课时会超过大部分院校汉语课程两年的课时。
Participators who place into IUP’s core curriculum will be assigned three hours of 3-on-1 classes and one hour of 1-on-1 classes daily, five days a week. After four months of classes, spring semester participators will have more class hours than two full years of Chinese courses at most universities.
学生签写保证书，保证在我校语言中心以及所有与课程相关的活动中只说汉语。严格的招生标准保证所有入学的学生具备在汉语授课环境下学习的必要语言能力。我校全面的课程设置评估，按学生的语言学习需求进行分班。学生每天有4-6小时的时间为后续课程做准备，所有课程将在“闭卷”课堂上进行。课堂上学生不得翻阅课本、笔记或字典。
Participators sign a pledge to only speak Chinese in our language center and in all program-related activities. Rigorous admissions standards ensure that all enrolled participators have the necessary language skills to learn Chinese in Chinese. Our comprehensive course placement evaluations places participators in classes that suit their language learning needs. Participators spend 4 to 6 hours daily preparing for the following day’s lessons, all of which are conducted in a “closed-book” classroom, in which participators cannot refer to the textbook, notes, or dictionary.
【招生对象】
对在读本科及研究生、应届毕业生、学术人士及专业人士开放。报名的学员至少具有两年的大学级别汉语学习经历。
IUP is open to current undergraduate and graduate participators, recent graduates, academics, and professionals with the equivalent of at least 2 years of university-level Chinese.

1. 提交申请：登录招生入口 http://iupchinesecenter.org/，提交所需资料，包括申请表、成绩单以及推荐信。可通过该网页查看IUP资料接收情况及申请状态。
2. 安排语言面试：初审通过后1-2周内，申请者将收到在线面试安排通知。
3. 入学资格审核结果：面试后1-2周内将公布结果。
1. Submit Application: Create Admissions Portal login and submit all necessary components including application form, transcripts, and recommendation letters. You can track IUP’s receipt of these documents and your application status in this portal.
2. Schedule a Language Interview: Within 1-2 weeks if you pass the initial application review, you will be invited to an online language interview.
3. Receive Decision: You will receive an admissions decision within 1-2 weeks of the interview.
【项目课程】
分班 Course Placement
注册学生在入学第一天完成分班考试。分班考试包括2小时的笔试，听力、阅读、语法、词汇、成语及文言文，共200多道题目。此外，学生还必须完成15-20分钟的口语考试。
Enrolled participators complete a placement test on the first day of orientation. This placement test includes a 2-hour written exam, consisting of over 200 questions in listening comprehension, reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, idioms, and classical Chinese. In addition, each participator must complete another 15-20 minute oral placement test.
分班考试确保学生分到与个人水平匹配的班级。根据个人能力及需求，课程涵盖难易程度不同的科目。部分学生可能会被分到每天2小时的“1对1”班级，因为该类学生的语言能力和其他入学的学生存在差距，或者该类学生有自己想研究的特定课题。
This allows IUP to guarantee participators are placed into the proper level(s) of classes. Depending on the individual language learner’s skills and needs, these courses can include different levels of difficulty in different subjects. Some participators might be placed in 2 hours of 1-on-1 tutorials each day. This can occur when a participator’s language level does not match with other incoming classmates or the participator has specific topics he or she wants to study.
最终，所有学生将在最后一周的培训再次参加分班考试，以证明在学习期间的提高程度。
Finally, all participators will retake the placement test in their final week of coursework so as to demonstrate how much they have improved over their time studying at IUP.
课程架构 Course Structure
学生学习的标准课时是8周为一个单元，每天4节课，共使用3本教材。分班考试及面试结果将决定学生的实际课程安排和教材。
Participators in IUP’s standard curriculum take four classes using three text books every day for an 8-week module. Placement test and interview results will determine participators’ actual schedule and textbooks.
小班教学：导师关注度更高 Small Classes: Individual Attention from Your Instructor
课堂不超过3个学员。每个学生每天有一小时的“1对1”辅导课。小班教学让每一位学生都能得到导师的关注，给予学生充足的时间与同学和老师进行交流，并深入讨论即将进行的研究课题。
IUP courses will have no more than three participators. Each participant will have one hour of one-on-one tutorial every day of the week. Such small classes allow for individual attention from the instructor and ample time for participators to exchange ideas with classmates and teachers and delve into meaningful discussions about the topic at hand.
仅有汉语语言环境：IUP是“契约式”语言课程
Chinese Only Language Environment: IUP is a “Language Pledge” Program
所有学生要签署一份保证书，保证在课堂上，在所有项目有关的活动中，以及在IUP的教学楼里只说汉语。所有学生必须具备接受汉语授课的能力。
All IUP participators sign a pledge to only speak Chinese in classes, all program activities, and in IUP's building. All IUP participators must be able to learn Chinese in Chinese.
闭卷课堂：课前充足的准备是高效课堂学习的关键
Closed-Book Classroom: Fully Preparing for Lessons is Essential for a Productive Classroom Experience
堪萨斯大学的卡尔·莱班教授（1968-69 IUP的学科领导人）第一次在IUP实施“闭卷课堂”，并沿用至今。学生在“闭卷课堂”上不得翻阅教材或笔记。
Professor Karl Leban of the University of Kansas (IUP Field Director, 1968-69) first instituted the “closed-book classroom” at IUP, a policy that continues to this day. This means that participators are not allowed to refer to their textbooks or notes while in class.
学生演讲：深入所选话题 Participator Speeches: Deep Dive into a Topic of Your Choice
在每个单元的学习中，学生需要自选话题，在课堂上做5-7分钟的演讲。导师与学生合作修改、完善演讲材料。演讲作业给学生提供各种用汉语发表公开演讲的训练机会，让学生学习课本上没有的知识。演讲一般在每单元第六周的周五进行，占期终成绩的10%。
Once every module, IUP participators are required to prepare and deliver a 5 to 7-minute speech on a topic of their choice in front of classmates and teachers. Instructors work closely with the participator to revise and improve their speech. This required assignment gives participators multiple opportunities to practice public speaking in Chinese and allows them to learn topics that might not be directly covered in their lessons. These speeches generally take place on the Friday of the sixth week of the module and account for 10% of the final grade.
课程类型 Types of Courses
综合课辅导（1小时）Integrated Course Tutorial (1 hour/day)
我校的“综合课”针对的是“1对1”辅导合班课的核心教材。“1对1”辅导都是最先开始的，导师有时间在综合班课前纠正学生的错误，改善不足。
Our “integrated” class focuses on one core textbook for one individual tutorial and one group class. The individual tutorial is always scheduled first to ensure that the instructor has time to correct errors and improve the participator’s weaknesses before the group class.
综合班课（1小时）Integrated Course Group Class (1 hour/day)
“综合课”聚焦于一本教材、一个导师、一个集体课堂。集体课堂的重点是练习新语法点，老师引导学员就当节课程主题展开讨论。
Our “integrated” class focuses on one core textbook for one individual tutorial and one group class. The group class focuses on practicing new grammar patterns and guided discussion between participators and teacher on the day’s lesson topic.
听力课（1小时）Listening Comprehension Course (1 hour / day)
学生还要参加每天的听力课。听力课材料来自广播、新闻报道以及其他有关文化、政治的音频。听力教材包括课堂话题简介、单词表以及语法点，但没有课文。
Participators also take a listening comprehension group course every day. This course using radio broadcasts, news reports, and other audio resources to introduce participants to important cultural and political topics. The Listening Comprehension course textbooks include brief introductions to the lesson topic, vocabulary lists, and grammar points, but no written lesson texts.
选修课（1小时）Elective Course (1 hour/day)
学生将参加“选修课”。该课程注重调整汉语学习中的不足。选修课包括发音、阅读、写作、语法或其他重要的基本功训练课程。IUP的高级班学生可以从文言文、商务汉语、文学、电影、法律等课程中选择。
Participators at IUP's intermediate levels will generally be assigned an "elective" that is geared toward addressing the weaknesses in the Chinese language. These courses include pronunciation, reading, writing, grammar, or other essential foundational skills. Participators at IUP’s advanced levels can choose from a selection of courses including Classical Chinese, Business Chinese, Literature, Film, Legal Studies, etc.
精选教材辅导（1-2小时）Selected Materials Tutorial (1 - 2 hours/day)
学生同样可以选择“1对1精选教材课”，课上使用学生自选教材。该类课程让高级班学生从弹性课程中获益，帮助他们深入研究感兴趣的课题。学生根据自己的学术兴趣精选教材、论文题目以及与职业相关的领域，与导师合作制定与所选教材相关的课程。精选教材课专为帮助学生达到专业能力而设计。
Advanced participators may also choose to have a 1-on-1 “Selected Materials Course”, using teaching materials that they choose themselves. These courses allow advanced participators to benefit from flexible curricula to delve into topics that fascinate them. Participants have chosen materials courses on their academic interest, dissertation topic, and areas related to their career and will work closely with the instructor to craft a curriculum around these materials. Selected Materials Courses are designed to help participators achieve professional competence in the topic of the course.
证书颁发描述 Description of Awarding Certificates
学员完成全部课程学习，并经考核合格后，由清华大学终身教育处统一颁发社会科学学院主办的IUP汉语培训项目学习证书，证书中加盖“清华大学继续教育证书专用章”和“社会科学学院公章”，证书编号可登录清华大学继续教育与认证网站查询，网址http://thtm.tsinghua.edu.cn。
After participators have completed their full course of study and have passed review, the Tsinghua University Office of Lifelong Education Administration will uniformly award Certificates of Completed Study from the Inter-University Program for Chinese Language Studies at Tsinghua University, administered by the Tsinghua University School of Social Sciences. The certificate will be stamped with “Tsinghua University Continuing Education Special Stamp” and “Tsinghua University School of Social Sciences official seal. “Certificate numbers can be searched and displayed at the following website: http://thtm.tsinghua.edu.cn.
